It’s amazing how a certain color changes the entire perception of a room – which can also make selecting the right paint color so challenging. Fortunately, the process doesn’t have to be that way anymore. In just 5 steps, let Aspira’s Quick Pick Paint Guide draw you toward the perfect paint color that’s a true reflection of your style.
Step 1: Consider natural and artificial light sources
What time of the day are you in the room the most?
Step 2: Choose a mood or style
Elegant, Casual, Romantic, Vibrant, Energetic, Calming
This is going to help you select how intense the color should be.
Pro Tip: Look in your closet at your various wardrobe pieces. What colors is your eye drawn to first? Do you have a favorite piece that you always go to?
Step 3: Select a color family
Here, we can pick a color tone. The three families are Cool, Neutral, and Warm.
Pro Tip: Pick a favorite piece of upholstery from your home, an art piece, interesting area rug or even look inside a favorite magazine. What colors are in play that excite you? Try to isolate the colors you find appealing and it will support where you want to go with the design.
Step 4: Get some samples
With this guide in hand, head to the paint store to get a few color strips or chips that are within range of the color that you previously selected above. You will want to take them home to see how the color looks with your lighting.
Pro Tip: The paint color is supposed to change! A color tone that looks one way in your home at a certain time of day may look very different in the evening.
Step 5: Test an area
(optional but highly recommended)
If you’re still unsure after selecting the color, you may order a quart or even a smaller sample very affordable.
Pro Tip: Paint out a small section of wall that is exposed to both full natural light along with a shadowed area. Feel it out for a day and you’ll know for sure!
